Jul 25, 2009  That's incorrect. All 2V modular engines are iron block with aluminum head except the 4.6 2V Explorer's and Mountaineer's. When the 4.6 switched to 3V they went all aluminum. All 4V 4.6 are alluminum except the 2003-04 supercharged Cobra's. The 03-04 Cobra needed the iron block for longevity.

So to answer your question, yes, it is worth a 60-70 lb reduction when swapping to the Aluminum block, other than that, there is no real performance gain or difference between the blocks.
