Jun 30, 2011 This should cut enamel that's still sticky without harming the anodizing. DO NOT use steel wool or paint stripper. Use a rag saturated in the mineral spirits, or, better yet, get a paint roller pan, fill it part-way, and immerse the guard in it for a couple of hours. Use a nice, soft paint brush to brush away the black.
Sodium Hydroxide: Also known as caustic soda or lye (NaOH), it is the most common method for stripping anodized coating. The concentration of caustic soda is generally 2-10% of 50% liquid caustic soda by volume in water. Depending on the bath concentration and temperature, the anodic coating should strip in a few seconds to a few minutes.
Email: INFO@AEROSPACEMETALSLLC.COMDec 05, 2011 Removing paint from Anodized Aluminum parts. I have a few aluminum parts that were painted and I need to remove that paint without removing the anodizing. Ive heard that oven cleaner and brake fluid may remove the anodizing and even pit the aluminum which I dont want to do. I dont know what type of paint was used but I would guess that its just ...
Dec 28, 2021 The proper way to strip anodizing is as follows: 30% phosphoric acid to 70% DI water. If you stay on top of the striping tank, you should be able to test when the nickel acetate is dissolved , and the dye is starting to dissolve. Test by rinsing in running water.
Jan 25, 2016 Any organic solvent (i.e. Xylene found in any degreaser) should work and leave the anodizing alone. Just use it in a well ventilated area and wear gloves. Any organic solvent should work fine. I bought a bottle of mineral spirits today. Slowly but surely it is removing the paint and the anodizing is left behind.
Dec 25, 2010 Screening is usually paint and these will soften it. I usually saturate a folded paper towel, place it over the adhesive/paint/goo and then seal it with clinging food wrap. After 20 minutes the softened stuff wips off with no abrasion. If the anodized part has seen a lot of sun it may have faded and once removed the screen may leave a "shadow."
Jan 26, 2021 I've used Klean Strip aircraft paint remover to try and remove Gunkote. It's for epoxy paints, but didn't work very well on Gunkote. Ended up blasting the finish off with aluminum oxide media. That worked great. Klean Strip didn't hurt the aluminum at all. Like others said, you would have to use a strong base to damage the anodizing layer.
