Aug 12, 2011 To run the unit on your Shopmaster, hook up the HF-15-1WG to the CC weld output studs and set the START to TOUCH and use the appropriate 14-pin remote foot/hand control to operate the Shopmaster contactor and current control. Once you step on the pedal or activate the hand control, touch the tungsten to the work for normal touch/scratch start.
Nov 20, 2014 Q: I need to fabricate many pieces of aluminum pipe from plate. The pipe will be 16 in. in diameter and 8 ft. long with 0.25-in. wall thickness. I want to weld the seam in one pass from the outside, but I don't want to use any backing material and I don't want to do anything to the root of the weld on the inside of the pipe.

Jun 30, 2004 06-30-2004, 09:21 PM. Yes, the copper is removed. It's just a backing to pull away head and reduce "blow through". In my experience, if the metal is rusted enough to perforate, the whole area is junk. Just cut it all out, make or buy a patch panel, and replace it. Trying to weld up the wholes is a waste of time.

The main difficult is that you cannot simply weld an engine block since it is made from cast iron, not steel. It is possible to weld cast iron using an arc welder and the proper welding rods, but that often can cause deformation to your engine block, or leave the welded area far more brittle and susceptible to further cracking.
