预计阅读时间:2 分钟Dec 18, 2009 Plus that's pure aluminum. "Aluminum" heads are typically an alloy. I'd think the reason we've not seen an aluminum head for our engine is due to it's size. The expansion rate on something so long would lead to gasket issues. The Duramax and the new powerstroke have aluminum heads as well. Heck even my 1984 model VW diesel has a aluminum head.

An aftermarket aluminum V8 block will typically weigh about 80 to 100 lbs. less than a comparable factory cast iron block of similar displacement. Add a pair of aluminum cylinder heads, and you can probably get rid of another 30 to 40 lbs. of dead weight.

The purpose of the engine block is to support the components of the engine. Additionally, the engine block transfers heat from friction to the atmosphere and engine coolant. The material selected for the engine block is either gray cast iron or aluminum alloy. Both of these metals have good thermal conductivity and fluidity in the molten state.
