3.6/5Yes, aluminum welding rods are really good. The caveat that follows that answer is the same one that goes with almost anything else in the market place. Buyer beware. Buy from reputable dealers and reputable manufacturers. Aluminum welding rods are only as good as the material in them, and the quality controls in place during manufacture.

I'd hoped they'd be better than the Alumiweld and Duraweld stuff everyone hates. They're not. They don't stick to anything. They melt, ball up into spheres, and roll off whatever you were trying to repair.

Sep 16, 2018 Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I will have to give them a try and see what happens. One of the features of the tank is a cylindrical air/oil separator that will need to withstand the force of the air/oil combination from the pump and I'm skeptical that welding to one side of the tank will be adequate, which is one of the reasons I want to use the plug style
