Technical Data Sheet. Aluminium Alloy 5056 primary constituent is magnesium which gives this non heat treatable alloy its high strength. Due to Alloy 5056 high strength and excellent formability it is used extensively in cold heading applications as well as wire forms and hinge pins.
Aluminum alloys contain have strong corrosion resistance characteristics and high electrical conductivity. These alloys obtain high strength when exposed to subzero temperatures and experience a decrease in strength when exposed toat high temperatures ranging between 200 and 250°C (392 and 482°F).

文件大小: 171KBMay 27, 2016 Alum sbc heads weigh in at around half of iron heads. Stock iron sbc heads are in the 45-49 lbs range each. Alum sbc heads 21-25 lbs range each. Iron sbc intake weighs in at 40-44 lbs. Alum. sbc intake in the 13-17 lbs range. Long tube headers, I would guess to be 3-5 lbs lighter for the set than exhaust manifolds.

Aluminum sheet. How to calculate the weight. The weight of sheet is easily calculated. Simply multiply the appropriate alloy density (see chart below) by the length, width, and thickness of the required part (see worked example below and note that we have used the density of alloy 2014 as the basis for our calculations).
4.500 Bore Spacing Aluminum Small Block BRODIX® Block. The only way to describe the BRODIX 8B 1200 4.500 bore spacing block is big and efficient. The standard bore size of this block is 4.180, but it may be bored to 4.250. The larger bore size increases the efficiency of this block with 500 cubic inch engines.
Jan 01, 2007 I don't know overall weight, I do know block is 154 (iron) and heads are 44each. So A bbf block is like 220 and the aluminum heads about 40each. So what is the crank weight of the 4.6 I don't know, or the extra weight of the cams. Considering the size I imagine the intake weight is similar.
The engine block alone accounts for 3-4% of the total weight of the average vehicle. Thus it played a key role in all weight-reduction considerations. Aluminium casting alloys as a substitute for the traditional cast iron can mean a reduction in engine block weight of between
An aluminum alloy for a cast engine block, said alloy consisting essentially of, by weight, 11.25 to 11.75% silicon, 0.35 to 0.65% iron, 1.75 to 2.75% copper, 0.4 to 1.2% manganese, 0.15 to 0.3% magnesium, 0.5% max zinc, a trace of nickel, 0.2% maximum titanium, 0.01% to 0.03% strontium and the balance aluminum, where the weight ratio of ...
Mar 01, 2006 The ZL1 was even lighter than an iron small block because of the aluminum block. An original big block with iron heads and intake, etc. weighs a ton. There are many ways to take weight off the front end so don't be at all concerned about weight distribution. My '68 is considerably lighter than a small block vette and I have a 454 in it.
Feb 06, 2020 What we settled on were a Mopar officially licensed super light-weight aluminum water pump housing (P/N 440-453) and matching aluminum water pump (P/N 440-452) for big block applications. The housing is nearly a spitting image of the factory cast iron piece with all of the factory hole locations in their proper place.
Jun 25, 2005 The aluminum block I linked to is 115 lbs. The sportsman block above it, if I would have linked you to the list page, is 210lbs. That was what I was basing my numbers off. I agree on the C-4 swap. We have done some checking into that and if I can get one of Art Carr's new short 4 wheel drive C-4's, I can save another 40 lbs. :bounce:
I am just starting to plan a build and could use some advice. A friend sent me here and said you guys knew your stuff. I want to build the most useful car possible. I have a Chevy 454 but was curious about reading about weight savings with the LS motor. What kind of real world advantage would the LS give me over my 454. My 454 has a lot of torque and HP, more so

Weight Differences in Steel and Aluminum. Even with the possibility of corrosion, steel is harder than aluminum. Most spinnable tempers and alloys of an aluminum dent, ding or scratch more easily as compared to steel. Steel is strong and less likely to warp, deform or bend underweight, force or heat. Nevertheless, the strength of steel's ...

Though the aluminum alloy also contain many similarities with low weight, it is still used in the manufacturing of diesel engine blocks because their internal stresses are higher. Grey cast iron contains 2.5 – 4 % of carbon, 1 -3 % of silicon, 0.2 - 1% manganese, 0.02 - 0.25 % of sulfur, and 0.02 - 1 % of phosphorus.

Jan 13, 2009 18,113 Posts. #3 May 7, 2008 (Edited) For the block, weight savings is about 80#. Additional cost is about $2,500. For the diff, weight savings is about 10#. Additonal cost is about $150. IMO, not worth it unless you're building an all out race car where every ounce counts. Or you're Bill Gates and a few extra pennies won't matter.
How much does an Aluminum LS Block weigh AlienTeknology. The Aluminum 5.7 L LS block came in around 109 lbs. The Iron 5.3 LS block came in around 218 lbs. The difference in material loss, as you can see, is almost negligible between the 5.3 vs 5.7 vs 6.0 bore sizes. It all comes down to casing material. 4.3 vs. 5.3 weight comparisons Pirate 4x4
Oct 25, 2000 The weight differences in a 351C block or a SVO 351 block and a 429/460 block list out at only 20-40 lbs. My SVO 351 block comes in just under 200, a 429 is like 220 or so if I remember right. I am thinking if someday I semi-retire my 71 Mach from road racing and have a car to move the SVO motor to, I will put in my 429 with some aluminum heads.
The rest of the book (Chapters 5–12) provides rules for making structural calculations and the reasoning that lies behind them. The treatment is mainly aimed at the construction industry. Weight saving is more important in aluminium than in steel, because of the higher metal cost. More accurate design calculations are therefore called for.
