Jun 01, 2021 On the 1953-66 Nailhead V8 the distributor is at the rear of the engine, while on the aluminum V8, it's at the front. Both engines use the familiar GM V8 firing order, 18436572. In many ways, the new Buick V8 was a fairly typical GM pushrod V8, if a bit more petite than most with a 3.50-in bore, 2.80-in stroke, and 4.24-in bore centers .

Jan 06, 2021 Have had many Buick's, nailhead and other. the 53-66 engines (425 most) dependable engines of any cars I've had (pic of my '63 Electra w/458,000 mi) . The 430's ('67-'69) were fast, had several, but they had a bad habit, if overheated, of becoming a 4500 lb paperweight until engine replacement, the 455 eliminated the prob.

Dec 14, 2016 If the engine number starts with a "D" it is from a Dodge. Size built were 241, 270, 315, and 325 in Dodges. Sizes in De Soto were 276, 291, 330, 341, and 345. Chrysler's were built in 331, 354, and 392. I have a 241, 331, 341, and 4 392s. I also have a Donovan 417 block which was a aftermarket aluminum race block that uses mostly 392 parts.

The CE57 stamping on the right-hand end of the block identifies this block as being from the '57 model year.
