May 03, 2021 The ideal way to remove paint from Aluminium is by using plastic blast media. This is used at low pressures between 15-40 psi (1-3 Bar), and will not damage the substrate whilst quickly and effectively removing the paint. If used correctly and carefully, you can actually remove one layer at a time, and can recycle the media 20-35 times.

Sep 05, 2015 Bare aluminum is the way to go. Paint doesn't like to stick to aluminum very well without expensive automotive materials. It wouldn't be hard to rack up way more money in top of the line materials including alumiprep 33, alodine, etch primer, and a two part top coat than what the tank is worth, or maybe what you could buy a new one for.

The result is that it's now in sad shape and I'd like to strip it and put a fresh coat of paint on it before re-installing it on my boat.
