High-Strength 7075 Aluminum Rods and Discs Originally developed for aircraft frames, uses for 7075 aluminum now include keys, gears, and other high-stress parts. It is often used as a replacement for 2024 aluminum because it's stronger and
Dec 29, 2012 From Mancini: • Aluminum struts are CNC machined to correct length and tolerances using 7075-T651 material and are .875 inch diameter compared to about .700 for the original steel struts. • Weight is 36 percent as much as the equivalent amount of steel. • These struts are stronger and lighter than the original steel components.
Dec 08, 2007 Aluminum rods come in all flavors too. Aluminum rods are also not all alike and are also made of different alloys. In the old days al aluminum rods were forged of either a 7075 or a 7071 alloy and exhibited peculiar traits of stretch and deforming, so were only good to be used in racing engines that were used only on the drag strip.
However, many aluminum connecting rod manufacturers argue that a good set of aluminum rods can last up to 100,000 miles in street applications. So it really comes down to your application and budget. If you're a racer and can afford to change out rods more frequently, aluminum is a good choice.
Aug 02, 2021 7075 aluminum alloy has a higher yield strength than 6061 aluminum. Consequently, 7075 aluminum is able to withstand more pressure and more impact without deformation. The yield strength of 7075 aluminum is due to its chemical composition and heat treatment. However, the yield strength of 276MPa means that 6061 aluminum is not
Oct 25, 2011 In order to zero in on the tall tales surrounding any discussion of aluminum rods and to help set the story straight, we placed a call to our good friend Brian Scollon at GRP Connecting Rods – one of the most respected and successful manufacturers of aluminum rods for the racing and high performance industry. Considering their experience in everything from

Aug 18, 2010 Anyone have long term experience with aluminum rods? I know in severe aplications they are expendable and are considered a maintenance item. I am currently using a set of Bill Miller aluminum rods in my street BBC, it is a n/a combination running 10.5 to 1 compression SRP pistons and a XE274 solid roller cam and is 509 inches.
