May 08, 2020 I found something saying the 4.6 weights closer to 600lbs and the 5.4 is like 630-650 mustang_gtr_99 Registered Joined Feb 23, 2009 2,782 Posts #8 Jul 29, 2010 They weigh a little over 500 lbs for the iron block 2V. The aluminum blocks save around 60+ lbs and pending on 2,3,or 4v will come in around high 300's low 400 lb range mustang_gtr_99

Aspiration: AtmosphericMay 08, 2004 Based on the post below about the size of the 4.6L engine, does anyone have the true weight of the engine with an iron block? I understand that the new Lincoln Aviators have and all aluminum 4.6L that makes around 300hp, so I assume it is a 32V engine, any idea what the weight of the all aluminum engine is?

The single overhead camshaft design (SOHC) of the 4.6L brought about better efficiency, and the first 4.6L to be put in an F150 was rated at 210 horsepower at 4400 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 3250 rpm. Built using an iron block and aluminum heads, the 4.6L Triton has a bore and stroke of 3.552 in by 3.543 in, making it a nearly square engine.
The power limit on the 4.6 engine can vary based on the production type and year of manufacture. On all 4.6 based engines though, the weak link is primarily the connecting rods. For 4.6 engines with 2 valve heads (2 valves per cylinder), the power limit is around 400 rwhp. This is for both NPI and PI models (1996-1998 and 1999-2004).

This Engine uses a aluminum block that differs from the production blocks by a fair amount. The block is cast of better materials and produced in a more controlled environment. The main journal webbing is much thicker for more reliability and the main bearing caps are of billet steel, with a combination of 4-main studs and 2-side bolts.
The Ford Modular engine is Ford's overhead camshaft (OHC) V8 and V10 engines produced in 4.6L, 5.0L (Cammer, Coyote), 5.4L, 5.8L and 6.8L sizes. Despite what you've heard, the Modular engine didn't get its name from its design, or because of sharing some parts in the engine family. In fact, the name came from a manufacturing plant
